34 neighborhoods get AED thanks to collaboration Nouri Foundation and Hartstichting

Almost six years after the cardiac arrest of Ajacied Abdelhak Nouri, the Nouri Foundation will install 34 AEDs throughout the country. Other activities will also be organized around the placement, such as CPR training. The Nouri foundation is working together with the Dutch Heart Foundation. Goal: (heart)safe neighborhoods and more connection in the neighborhood.

CPR training

The cooperation was confirmed on March 3 at the A. Nouriplein in Amsterdam, after a reanimation training to various stakeholders, such as neighborhood coaches. Well-known street soccer player Soufiane Touzani was also present. The number of AEDs refers to the back number of Ajax player Abdelhak 'Appie' Nouri, who was struck by cardiac arrest in 2017.

Positive impulse

The Nouri Foundation, which was founded by his family five years after the Ajax player's cardiac arrest, wants to contribute to a (heart) safe environment by placing the AEDs. The AEDs will be hung on, for example, sports squares in neighborhoods that could use a positive impulse. The Heart Foundation supports the Nouri Foundation, for example to determine which locations contribute to the further improvement of the national AED network. It is also important that the AEDs be registered with the call system HartslagNu.

Involving the neighborhood

The Nouri Foundation and Heart Foundation believe it is important that in addition to placing an AED, the neighborhood should also be involved. Neighborhood coaches, citizens and professional soccer organizations (BVOs) have an important role in this. Neighborhood coaches are trained by the Heart Foundation to be able to resuscitate. They can then transfer this knowledge to the neighborhood. Because at the moment it is not always known what to do in case of cardiac arrest.

Safe environment

"It has to be a Nouri-AED, dedicated to the neighborhood and involving everyone," says Abdelhak's brother, Abderrahim Nouri. "When Abdelhak played in a square, he made sure everyone, regardless of limitations, could participate. He created a safe environment for everyone to play sports and games together. A safe environment also includes AEDs, because an AED can save lives. Just look at Christian Eriksen."

Connect

When an AED is installed, the Nouri Foundation always organizes (sports) activities. By doing so, it wants to connect groups that will not easily meet and involve children and young people who are on the sidelines. Hans Snijder, director of the Dutch Heart Foundation: "We are happy and proud that the Nouri Foundation wants to join us in making the Netherlands more heart safe. This initiative goes much further than just placing AEDs: it creates connection in the neighborhood and more awareness about your heart health."

Scientific research

The Nouri Foundation has expressed its intention to also contribute in the future to the research into sudden cardiac death conducted by, among others, Prof. Dr. Arthur Wilde and Prof. Dr. Marc Vos from the AMC. This research is funded (in part) by the Heart Foundation.
